Marilyn Kirkpatrick and two other Nevada legislators stated today they will introduce “Nevada Businesses First” legislation in the 2011 Nevada Legislature.

LAS VEGAS, NV—Key Nevada legislators stated today they will introduce “Nevada Businesses First” legislation in the 2011 Nevada Legislature as a companion to their previously announced “Nevada Jobs First”.

Assemblyman John Oceguera, Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Assemblywoman Debbie Smith announced the initiative to get Nevada businesses back to work. The proposed legislation focuses on those companies receiving tax abatements or tax credits for establishing themselves in Nevada. It requires them to provide Nevada subcontractors a 5% bid preference over out-of-state bidders, increasing the opportunities for Nevada businesses to qualify for new work.

North Las Vegas facing More Cops questions

Safer standards urged after North Las Vegas Airport crashes

State Senate Majority Leader Steven Horsford, D-Las Vegas, and Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick, D-North Las Vegas, issued a joint statement today calling for affected agencies to heed the report’s recommendations.


“We urge local and federal officials to follow up on these recommendations and implement those that ensure a safer operation of the airport and protect North Las Vegas and Las Vegas neighborhoods,” the statement reads.

Official: Lift ban on child care in casinos

A growing number of conventions cater to attendees who bring their families and want child care close by, according to state Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick, D-North Las Vegas…Kirkpatrick worked during the legislative session to clarify a state regulation allowing temporary child care in Nevada casinos.

'Green' bills receive push from leaders

Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick, D-North Las Vegas, set out early in the session to examine the state's tax abatements used to attract businesses.


"We have to stay competitive, stay on the cutting edge," Kirkpatrick said Friday. "But at the same time we have to make sure that Nevada workers are part of the process."
